What an exciting week I had traveling with Meyer throughout the US this June. This year, because we are blessed to have support from so many areas around the country, we decided to hop on a few planes and visit everyone we could to express our thanks for their generosity and to ask for continued support.
Throughout the week and a half that Meyer was in the US, we attended 7 EVENTS (in addition to about half a dozen unofficial get- togethers). We know there are friends that we didn’t get a chance to connect with in our short time, so we're already busy planning ...
After 5+ years of raising funds to make our Mosaic dream come true, we have used a lot of creative fundraising techniques. We've hosted big events, sold bracelets, made keychains and even written a cookbook- all to be trumped by one of our most dedicated fans, who is currently bicycling across ALASKA to raise funds for Mosaic!
Our dear friend, retired United Methodist pastor Tom Hall, who has visited us in South Africa multiple times on mission trips to build Mosaic homes, embarked on a brave adventure at the end of June with a friend and their bicycles. We have been ...
Now that our reading program has been underway for a solid 5 months, we’ve really been able to see and measure its effectiveness among our children. We’ve seen improved attitudes and higher levels of participation in learning activities from almost all involved.
A particularly encouraging story is that of Mpho, age 11, who we have watched make a complete turnaround. In just 6 months, she’s gone from struggling to read at a Grade R/Kindergarten level to reading at a Grade 3 level. We've watched her personality transform as she grew from being quiet and shy into ...
During the past 2 years Mosaic has invested heavily in the education of our children. We realise that it is not enough to ensure that our children have proper housing and that their parents are employed. We realise that in order to create any kind of future for our children, education needs to be a major priority!
Currently, our country does not make education a priority. We've shared with you in previous stories some of the realities of the South African education system, and we've seen it first-hand. When asking one of our children why she only gets 18% for her ...
Our Founder and CEO, Meyer Conradie, will be in the US from the 29th of May until the 10th of June. During his visit he will speak at 7 different fundraising events in 5 different States. This is the first time that Mosaic will fundraise extensively in the United States.
We are so thankful for all of our partners and volunteers hosting these different events and as a token of their appreciation, the Mosaic children made some 'thank you' bracelets and keychains. Meyer is hoping to raise enough funding at these events to build 6 new Mosaic homes and further funding for ...
As of today, we're undergoing a major overhaul and update to the Mosaic site. In an effort to grow our business venture Made By Mosaic, we've built a completely separate e-commerce store which will allow multiple currencies and purchases from both the United States and South Africa. Expect that to be online soon!
For this site, expect to see more fundraising options, detailed updates and reports, and an overall fresh feel. Thanks for stopping by!
House 18 and 19
We were recently joined by an outreach team all the way from the United States. The Montana team helped us build our 18th house in less than a week! A typical week of building usually consists of stacking bricks, paving and painting the walls. The team’s passion and commitment for bringing the house to life was everyday evident. After a week of hard work, the team had a housewarming party for the new family. We would like to thank the team for all they have done!
Just as the team left, we were joined by another team from Hopewell United Methodist ...
Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning - Benjamin Franklin
Mosaic is growing at a rapid rate thanks to your support. With 16 foster homes under the Mosaic umbrella, we have
64 children in our after school program. We have also created more than 30 jobs. In order for us to keep up, we will have to expand our resources and infrastructure. For those readers who do not already know, we've built a new Mosaic Centre. The centre will serve many purposes:
Hosting parent meetings and parent training
Wow! It is already the end of January! Time flies when you are having fun. 2014 here at Mosaic really started off on a good note as three families moved into their houses.
Joseph and Welhemina and their two foster children, Lenah (10) and Minah (8). Also joining the Mosaic family is Filemon and Emily and their foster daughters, Elisa (14) and Refilwe (3). Lastly our third foster parents Alfred and Maria – foster parents to eight children!
We have started an afterschool pre-school for the Mosaic toddlers. Our new foster mother and Made by Mosaic ...
On the 18th of July, South Africans all across the country as well as the international community celebrated former president Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday. Tata Madiba, as most South Africans refer to him, is an international icon of freedom, peace, forgiveness and reconciliation. He has played a tremendous part in the healing of a once broken nation and the birth of a rainbow nation.
Madiba dedicated 67 years of his life in fighting for the human rights of all South Africans. In honour of his journey, Nelson Mandela Day was created where all South Africans as ...
