Celebrating our History

Mosaic was founded by Meyer and Louise Conradie—who felt an extraordinary calling to care for orphan and vulnerable children—along with the help of their American friend, Karen Baker and other Christian church members.

In November 2008, Mosaic founders Meyer and Louise Conradie hosted the first Mosaic discussion with friends and family about how to best serve the staggering and growing number of orphans in South Africa.

Today we look back and celebrate were we come from and where we are going.

One frequent misconception out there is that Mosaic takes care of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC). We want to emphasize that WE are not the caretakers… FAMILIES are. COMMUNITIES are. Our role comes in where these families and communities caring for OVC need to be equipped with resources to be able to do what they do. They have all the love and care to give these children, but with poverty constantly on the rise, they lack the finances, resources and support systems to sustain their provision of love and care. This where Mosaic makes an impact. Rather than removing OVC from their families and/or communities and sending them into a broken system, we empower the families and communities to sustain, love and provide for the children. ... Did you know that Mosaic developed a special application to help NGOs measure their impact?Wellbi is the product of thorough research and the real-life experiences of an OVC (orphaned and vulnerable children)-care organization in South Africa ( It is a marriage between science and real life, creating a user-friendly tool which will assist in data-driven decision-making and effective use of resources towards greater impact.Meyer and Louise Conradie founded an OVC-care organization in 2009 and, through their experiences, learnt that there is a great need for a measuring and evaluation tool specific to the OVC care sector. They realized that hard science and employees' hearts needed to be used together to ensure a true and lasting impact. Wellbi’s suitability in the impact space was soon recognized and is being used in various organizations, serving various types of beneficiaries.“Our vision is to help organizations to move beyond counting the number of beneficiaries they serve, but to quantify the change they are effecting in their lives”, Meyer Conradie, CEO Wellbi. ... We are faced with the shocking reality that there are more than 5.2 million orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa. These are children in desperate need of hope, healing, and support. Without a dream for a future, these kids will fall into the dark cycle of poverty and crime. Research and social science shows that the best solution to care for orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC)is family-based orphan care – the best care a child can have is with a family, with someone who cares for them and a sense of belonging. Our family-based care encompasses care and support for the whole family. ... See MoreSee Less
